Sending an engine – secure B2B transport for car and industrial engines

You send an engine safely when the securing is tight-fit: an engine is heavy, compact, oily and top-heavy – the core factor is to set it bolted or lashed firmly onto a load-bearing pallet or into a mesh box pallet, so that the oil pan and attachments bear no load.

Ship hull at the shipyard – sending an engine

An engine is heavy, compact and sensitive all at once: residues of oil and coolant, protruding attachments and a high centre of gravity make shipping more demanding than with ordinary palletised goods. Speed Logistics handles engine shipping as direct transport without transhipment – from the single replacement engine in a mesh box pallet to the industrial engine weighing several tonnes.

You receive a fixed-price offer within a few hours, and the dedicated dispatch team is available around the clock. Collection and delivery are door to door throughout Europe and to non-EU countries – such as Türkiye, North Africa or the Gulf region – including customs clearance from EXW to DDP.

Which engines we transport

  • Car engines and replacement engines – on a pallet or in a mesh box pallet, typically 100–300 kg
  • Gearboxes and engine-gearbox units for workshops, engine reconditioners and the parts trade
  • Industrial engines, electric motors and generator sets up to the tonne range, also as a spare part for down plant
  • Marine engines and special engines with individual load securing

Depending on the shipment size, we assign the right vehicle – from the 3.5 t Sprinter for the single replacement engine to the 40 t articulated lorry for a series delivery to an engine plant.

Packaging and load securing for engine shipping

The decisive factor is tight-fit securing: an engine belongs bolted or lashed firmly onto a load-bearing pallet or into a mesh box pallet, and the oil pan and attachments must not bear any load. Our drivers secure the load with lashing straps, anti-slip mats and, where needed, edge protectors. Residual fluids should be drained before shipping or the openings sealed tightly – this avoids contamination and disputes on handover. On receipt, the driver checks packaging and securing; any recognisable defects we clarify before departure, not first at the consignee. Where there is no forklift, we provide a vehicle with a tail lift; for very heavy industrial engines we organise crane loading by agreement.

Process: from enquiry to delivery

You give us the dimensions, weight, type of packaging and the collection and delivery address. Within a few hours you receive a binding fixed price. After release, a firmly assigned vehicle collects the engine at the agreed date and drives it directly and without transhipment to the consignee – on request with a fixed delivery window, for example when a workshop is waiting for the replacement engine or a production line is standing still. The transport runs with a CMR consignment note; higher value insurance we arrange on request. Throughout the journey your dedicated dispatch team stays reachable and informs you proactively about the shipment status – up to signed delivery.

Costs and express options

The cost of engine shipping depends on weight and dimensions, the lane, the required vehicle and deadline pressure. A single car engine within Germany by direct transport is in a different order of magnitude than a 5 t industrial engine to Türkiye – which is why we calculate every enquiry individually and quote you a transparent fixed price without hidden surcharges. In the event of machine standstill, the express engine transport runs as a special journey: collection within a few hours, delivery overnight or at the weekend too. For recurring engine traffic – for example between a reconditioning operation and a workshop network – we agree fixed conditions and collection days so your spare-parts logistics stays plannable.

Frequently asked questions: Sending an Engine

How must an engine be packaged for shipping?

The engine should be bolted onto a load-bearing pallet or secured tight-fit in a mesh box pallet, so that neither the oil pan nor attachments bear any load. Drain residual fluids or seal the openings tightly. Our drivers handle the load securing in the vehicle with lashing straps and anti-slip mats; on request we advise you in advance on the right packaging.

What does it cost to send a car engine?

The price depends on weight, dimensions, distance and deadline. For a palletised car engine within Germany by direct transport, the guide value is usually in the low to mid three-figure range, depending on lane and lead time. You receive a binding fixed price from us within a few hours, with no hidden fees.

Can you collect an engine from the sender without a forklift?

Yes. If there is no forklift and no ramp at the collection or delivery address, we assign a vehicle with a tail lift and pallet truck. The prerequisite is that the engine is on a pallet or in a mesh box pallet. Very heavy industrial engines we load by crane by agreement.

How quickly can a replacement engine be delivered as an express run?

With an express direct transport, a firmly booked vehicle usually collects the engine within a few hours and drives straight through to the consignee without transhipment. Within Germany, delivery the same or next day is usually possible this way – at night or at the weekend too, when a workshop or production is waiting.

Do you also send engines to non-EU countries, such as Türkiye?

Yes. We transport engines to Türkiye, North Africa, the Middle East and other non-EU countries – including complete export and import customs clearance from EXW to DDP. You supply us with the commercial invoice and goods data, and we take care of the export declaration, border clearance and delivery to the consignee.

Is the engine insured during transport?

Every transport runs with a CMR consignment note and is subject to statutory carrier liability under CMR. For high-value engines – such as new industrial engines or custom builds – we arrange additional value insurance to the actual value of the goods on request. Just tell us the value of the goods with your enquiry.

Common mistakes when sending engines – what should I watch out for?

Two mistakes occur frequently: the engine is packaged so that the oil pan or attachments bear the load, instead of being bolted onto a load-bearing pallet or secured tight-fit in a mesh box pallet. And residual fluids are not drained or the openings not sealed tightly, which leads to contamination and disputes on handover. The driver checks packaging and securing on receipt.

Why does the express engine transport run as a special journey during standstill?

When a vehicle or machine is standing still, every hour counts. As an express direct transport, a firmly booked vehicle collects the engine within a few hours and drives straight through without transhipment – within Germany usually with delivery the same or next day, at night or at the weekend too, when a workshop or production is waiting.
