Sending a set of tyres – four wheels safely from A to B

You send a set of tyres best palletised as direct transport: four complete wheels are too heavy and bulky for a parcel and rim-sensitive – the core factors are cardboard inserts or padding between the rims so that paint and rim flange are not scratched; all four wheels stay together.

Packed project cargo on a low-loader

A single set of tyres – four tyres or complete wheels with rims – is too heavy and too bulky for convenient self-transport, but often a nuisance by parcel: scratched alloy rims, lost single wheels, no fixed delivery date. Speed Logistics sends sets of tyres palletised as direct transport door to door – for car dealers, workshops, vehicle traders and fleets.

Typical cases: the customer moves and the stored winter wheels are to go to the new workshop, a sold vehicle is handed over without the fitted second set, or a high-value rim set goes for reconditioning. You receive a fixed price within a few hours, and the dispatch team is available 24/7. Collection is at the business or the end customer – nationwide and throughout Europe; for stored wheel sets we coordinate the collection date directly with the tyre warehouse, including notification and storage-slip reference.

What belongs to sending a set of tyres

  • Complete wheels with alloy or steel rims – rim-friendly padded and lashed
  • Loose sets of tyres without rims – lying in a composite on the pallet
  • High-value rim sets for reconditioning, powder coating or as an accessory purchase
  • Wheel sets with accessories such as wheel bolts, hub caps or TPMS sensors, packed separately

A standard set of car complete wheels weighs 60–120 kg depending on the size and fits on a Euro pallet – ideal for transport in the Sprinter or as a part load on one of our direct lanes.

Rim-friendly packing and securing

Complete wheels are stacked lying on top of each other, with cardboard inserts or padding between the rims to prevent scratches to the paint and rim flange. The stack is fixed on the pallet with stretch film and a lashing strap; valves and TPMS sensors stay protected this way. For particularly high-value forged or special rims we additionally recommend an individual carton per wheel – we advise you before collection which packaging makes sense for your set. If packaging material is missing, the driver brings a pallet, film and intermediate layers by agreement and secures the set on site. You do not need to reduce the tyre pressure – transport at operating pressure is uncritical.

Process: from quote to delivery

You give us the wheel size or dimensions and weight, the collection and delivery address and the desired date. After you release the fixed price, a firmly assigned vehicle collects the set – with a tail lift if needed, in case neither forklift nor ramp is available – and delivers it directly without transhipment. Because all four wheels travel together on one pallet, there is no risk of separated or lost single wheels as in the parcel network. Car dealers and workshops with regular wheel-set shipments we bundle onto fixed routes – so single shipments stay economical even in small quantities.

Costs and delivery options

Costs depend on the lane, lead time and deadline pressure; as a palletised single shipment, a set of tyres is comparatively cheap to schedule when it runs as a part load on a suitable route. Urgent sets – such as before a vehicle sale or seasonal change – we run as an express direct transport with delivery the same or next working day. You receive the transparent fixed price without hidden fees in advance – for the enquiry, the wheel size, postcodes of the collection and destination address and the desired date are enough; a photo of the packed set helps with the vehicle choice.

Frequently asked questions: Sending a Set of Tyres

How do I correctly pack a set of complete wheels for shipping?

Stack the four wheels lying on a Euro pallet and place cardboard inserts or padding material between the rims so that the paint and rim flange are not scratched. Then wrap the stack with stretch film and fix it on the pallet with a strap. Pack small parts such as wheel bolts or hub caps separately.

What does it cost to send a set of tyres within Germany?

The price depends on distance, deadline and lead time. If the palletised set runs as a part load on a suitable direct lane, the guide value within Germany is usually in the lower three-figure range depending on the lane; an exclusive express direct transport we calculate higher. You receive your binding fixed price within a few hours.

What is the advantage over parcel shipping of individual wheels?

In the parcel network, each wheel travels individually – with the risk of scratched rims, separate deliveries or lost single wheels. With us the complete set stays on one pallet, is loaded once and delivered directly without transhipment. We also confirm fixed delivery dates, which is hardly possible with four individual parcels.

Can you collect the set of tyres from a private address without a forklift?

Yes. For addresses without a forklift or ramp – such as at the end customer of a car dealer – we use a vehicle with a tail lift and pallet truck. The set should be palletised and fastened for this; on request the driver brings an empty pallet and the stack is secured on site.

Do you also send high-value rim sets for reconditioning?

Yes. We transport forged, special and classic-car rims padded – on request each wheel in an individual carton – for reconditioning, powder coating or to the buyer. For particularly valuable sets we arrange additional value insurance to the actual value of the goods on request; the transport runs with a CMR consignment note anyway.

How quickly can a set of tyres be delivered by express?

As an express direct transport, a firmly booked vehicle usually collects the set within a few hours and drives straight through without transhipment. Within Germany, delivery the same or next working day is usually possible this way – for example when a vehicle including its second set is to be handed over at short notice.

Common mistakes when sending a set of tyres – what should I watch out for?

Without cardboard inserts or padding between the wheels stacked lying, the paint and rim flange get scratched, and an unsecured stack slips on the pallet – valves and TPMS sensors get damaged. A common misunderstanding is also to reduce the tyre pressure before shipping; this is not necessary. For high-value forged or special rims, an individual carton per wheel is additionally recommended.

Why does the tyre pressure not need to be reduced during transport?

Unlike with parcel or air-freight shipping, road transport at operating pressure is uncritical – reducing the tyre pressure is not required. More important are the rim-friendly padding between the wheels and fixing the stack with stretch film and a lashing strap on the pallet, so that valves and TPMS sensors stay protected.
