Ship an Industrial Plant – Transport Machinery Safely

You ship a plant safely when the vehicle and load securing match the dimensions, weight, centre-of-gravity position and lifting or fork points – and when it is clarified in advance whether loading at the loading and unloading point is by ramp, forklift or crane.

Mount Ararat – industrial plant transport

Whether a complete production line, individual plant modules or components from machine and apparatus engineering: a plant transport is no standard job. Weight, centre-of-gravity position, lifting points and on-time delivery determine whether the plant arrives at the installation site undamaged and on schedule. Speed Logistics plans and drives plant transports as direct transport – within Germany, across Europe and to non-EU countries including customs clearance.

You get a dedicated contact in dispatch who accompanies the transport from load planning to delivery, and a no-obligation fixed-price quote within a few hours – even for complex lanes with pre- and on-carriage.

Which plants we transport

We carry plants and plant components from machine building, process engineering and production – from the control cabinet on a pallet to the multi-tonne vessel or reactor. For each shipment we select the right equipment:

  • Curtain-side or mega trailer for plant components to be loaded from the side or from above
  • Crane loading: loading from above via open-top vehicles, provided a crane is available on site
  • Low-loader for tall or heavy single items within the permissible dimensions and weights up to the 40-tonne rig
  • Sprinter and 7.5-tonne truck for urgent single components, spare assemblies and follow-up deliveries to the assembly site

Process and transport planning

It starts with the facts: dimensions (L × W × H), weight, centre of gravity, lifting or fork points and the question of how loading is done at the loading and unloading point – ramp, forklift or crane. On this basis we define the vehicle type, load-securing concept and route. Sensitive assemblies such as control units, hydraulic units or polished surfaces are secured with edge protectors, anti-slip mats and adequately dimensioned lashing straps; on request we coordinate transport-ready packaging with your packer.

For installation and shutdown deadlines every hour counts: as a direct run without transloading, the plant stays on the same vehicle from the plant to the installation site – a key difference from groupage traffic, where every handling operation means a risk of damage.

We also support complete machine relocations between plants logistically: several partial transports in a coordinated sequence, so that the dismantling, transport and assembly teams mesh without downtime. In the event of damage, CMR liability applies; for high goods values we additionally arrange transport insurance matched to the plant value. Condition and loading we document photographically on request at pickup and delivery – clean proof towards insurer, manufacturer and end customer. And because construction sites rarely run to plan, the dispatch team stays reachable even when dates shift and re-schedules at short notice.

Plant export to non-EU countries – with customs

Plant deliveries to Türkiye, North Africa, the Gulf region or Central Asia we handle door-to-door, from EXW to DDP. We prepare the export declaration, check required documents such as commercial invoice, packing list and proof of preferential origin, and coordinate the import clearance in the destination country. For temporary uses – such as exhibition machines or demonstration units – handling with an ATA Carnet is also possible on request.

Cost factors in plant transport

The price depends on dimensions and weight, vehicle type, lane, loading method and time pressure. Over-height or over-width can trigger permits and conditions, which we plan in for you. You receive a transparent fixed price – depending on lane and lead time as a guide-value range or firmly calculated, without hidden surcharges.

Frequently asked questions: Industrial Plant Transport

What details does Speed Logistics need for a plant transport?

We need dimensions (length, width, height), weight, ideally the centre-of-gravity position and the lifting or fork points of the plant, plus the loading situation at the pickup and delivery point – ramp, forklift or crane. With this data we define the vehicle type and load securing and calculate the fixed price within a few hours.

Can a plant be loaded from above by crane?

Yes. For crane-liftable plant components we use open-top vehicles whose roof and sides can be opened for loading from above. The precondition is that a suitable crane is available at the loading and unloading point – the lifting gear itself is usually provided by the plant or the assembly contractor.

Up to what weight does Speed Logistics transport plants?

We move plants and plant components with vehicles from the Sprinter (3.5 t GVW) to the 40-tonne articulated truck, and for tall or heavy single items also by low-loader within the permissible dimensions and weights. Tell us the key data of your plant – we check feasibility and propose the right equipment.

Is the plant transloaded during transport?

No. Speed Logistics drives plant transports as direct transport: the plant stays on the same vehicle from the sender's plant to the installation site. This considerably reduces the risk of damage, since most transport damage occurs during handling – and it makes the arrival time plannable for assembly teams. It also eliminates waiting times at handling warehouses, so the lead time stays calculable.

Does Speed Logistics handle customs clearance for plant exports?

Yes. For deliveries to non-EU countries such as Türkiye, North Africa or the Gulf region we take on export declaration, border clearance and, on request, import clearance in the destination country – door-to-door from EXW to DDP. For temporary exports, such as exhibition or demonstration units, handling via ATA Carnet is possible.

What does it cost to ship a plant?

Costs depend on dimensions, weight, vehicle type, lane and time pressure; over-width or over-height can require permits and increase the price. We give concrete figures only after checking your shipment data – as a no-obligation fixed-price quote that you receive within a few hours.

Common mistakes in plant transport – what should I watch out for?

Critical are missing details on centre-of-gravity position and lifting points, as well as an unclear loading situation (ramp, forklift or crane) at the loading and unloading point. Without this data the vehicle type and load securing do not fit, and sensitive assemblies such as control units or polished surfaces get damaged. Speed Logistics clarifies dimensions, weight, loading method and securing concept before the run and secures sensitive parts with edge protectors and anti-slip mats.

Why does a direct run reduce the risk of damage to plants?

Most transport damage occurs during handling. As a direct run without transloading, the plant stays on the same vehicle from the plant to the installation site – every handling operation at a transfer warehouse is eliminated. This also makes the arrival time plannable for assembly teams, because there are no waiting times at third-party terminals in between.
