Temperature-Controlled Transports – a seamless cold chain from +2 to +25 °C

Temperature-controlled transports keep the goods actively climate-controlled between +2 and +25 °C throughout the journey – mandatory for pharma and many foods. The core is the seamless cold chain with IoT monitoring and real-time alarm, so that intervention happens before a deviation arises.

Wind turbine close-up – temperature-controlled transports

Temperature-controlled transports keep your goods within a defined temperature window throughout the journey – at Speed Logistics actively climate-controlled in the range of +2 to +25 °C. This is mandatory for pharmaceuticals and many foods and urgently recommended for temperature-sensitive high-tech components, chemical products or cosmetics.

The core of our solution is the seamless cold chain: active climate technology instead of mere insulation, continuous temperature monitoring by IoT sensors and alerting in real time when the load temperature approaches the limit value. So we can intervene before a deviation arises – and on request you receive the documented temperature curve as quality proof for your audit.

For which goods and temperature ranges?

  • Pharma and healthcare: transports according to GDP requirements, typically +2 to +8 °C or +15 to +25 °C, with a documented temperature curve
  • Foods: fresh and dry ranges in accordance with the requirements of the ATP Agreement for perishable goods
  • High-tech and electronics: protection against heat, frost and condensation, combinable with premium handling for high-value goods
  • Chemicals and cosmetics: stable storage temperature against separation, viscosity change and quality loss

Summer heat and winter frost: the underestimated risks

Most temperature damage arises not from defective cooling units but at the transitions: at the ramp in summer heat, at the border stop in winter or through a non-climate-controlled waiting time before unloading. In high summer an uncooled load space heats up within a short time to well over 40 °C; in winter frost damage threatens water-based products. That is why we plan the entire chain with temperature awareness – pre-conditioning, short ramp times, climate-controlled waiting positions – instead of cooling only the main leg. The handover to the recipient is part of it too: we notify time windows so that the goods move directly from the climate-controlled load space into your cold zone.

Technology: active climate control and IoT monitoring

We deploy actively climate-controlled vehicles and climate containers that hold the target window independently of outside temperature and season. The IoT sensors measure continuously in the load space and transmit the values in real time to our dispatch team. Defined alarm thresholds trigger immediate measures: from readjusting the unit to approaching a service point. In addition, GPS tracking secures the shipment – you know at all times where your goods are and what temperature they have.

Process: from temperature profile to transport

At the start stands your temperature profile: target range, permissible tolerances, pre-cooling requirements and loading conditions. On this we calculate a fixed-price offer that you receive within a few hours. Before loading, the load space is pre-conditioned and the target temperature documented; after delivery you receive the complete temperature log on request. To be factored in is a price surcharge compared with the standard transport – active climate control costs energy but replaces any risk of a discarded batch. For recurring traffic we store your temperature profile so that follow-up bookings start without renewed alignment.

Temperature-controlled to non-EU countries

With us, refrigerated transports do not end at the EU border either: we run temperature-controlled direct transports, for example to Türkiye or the Middle East – with complete customs clearance, so that the goods do not stand in the sun at the border. The cold chain stays continuously documented, from loading to handover to the recipient.

Frequently asked questions: Temperature-Controlled Transports

Which temperature ranges does Speed Logistics cover?

Actively climate-controlled from +2 to +25 °C – this covers the common profiles: +2 to +8 °C for refrigeration-dependent pharmaceuticals and fresh products as well as +15 to +25 °C for goods to be carried at ambient temperature. Your specific temperature profile including tolerances we define together before booking.

How is the temperature monitored during transport?

By IoT sensors directly in the load space, with continuous transmission to our dispatch team. Defined alarm thresholds trigger real-time alerts so that we can intervene before the limit value is reached. After delivery you receive the complete temperature log on request as proof for your quality assurance.

Are GDP-compliant transports for pharma possible?

Yes, we carry out pharma transports according to GDP requirements: pre-conditioned load space, continuous monitoring with alerting and a documented temperature curve for your audit. Tell us your temperature profile and your SOP requirements – we align the complete handling with them before the first trip.

What happens in the event of a looming temperature deviation en route?

The alarm thresholds lie deliberately before the limit value: on approach the sensors report in real time, and dispatch reacts immediately – from readjusting the cooling unit to approaching a service point. You are informed at once and then receive the complete event and temperature documentation.

Why is a temperature-controlled transport more expensive than a standard transport?

Active climate control consumes energy, the special equipment is more expensive to acquire and maintain, and monitoring plus documentation require additional effort. Against this stands the risk of a discarded batch – for pharma or perishable foods the potential damage as a rule considerably exceeds the surcharge.

Does Speed Logistics also run refrigerated transports to non-EU countries?

Yes, temperature-controlled direct transports for example to Türkiye or the Middle East – including complete customs clearance, so that the goods do not stand uncooled at the border. The cold chain stays continuously active and documented, from loading at your ramp to handover to the recipient.

At which points does the cold chain break most often?

Most temperature damage arises not from defective cooling units but at the transitions: at the ramp in summer heat, at the border stop in winter or through a non-climate-controlled waiting time before unloading. Speed Logistics therefore plans the entire chain with temperature awareness – pre-conditioning, short ramp times, climate-controlled waiting positions – and notifies the handover so that the goods move directly into the recipient's cold zone.

Why is mere insulation not enough for temperature-controlled goods?

A merely insulated, uncooled load space heats up in high summer within a short time to well over 40 °C, and in winter frost damage threatens water-based products. Active climate control, by contrast, holds the target window independently of outside temperature and season – monitored by IoT sensors with alarm thresholds that lie deliberately before the limit value.
