Freight Forwarding Montenegro – Transport Germany ↔ Montenegro incl. Customs

Transport to Montenegro runs as a direct run incl. customs clearance and reaches Podgorica in 3–4 working days (approx. 1,900 km). Montenegro is not an EU member – Speed Logistics handles the complete customs clearance (T1/TIR).

Speed Logistics runs transport between Germany and Montenegro – to Podgorica, Nikšić and the Adriatic port of Bar. The main leg runs as a direct run via Austria or Slovenia and the Croatian Adriatic route, around 1,700 kilometres from Germany. Including border clearance, the transit time is three to four working days.

Montenegro is an EU accession candidate but a non-EU country: every shipment needs complete export and import handling. Anyone setting off with incomplete papers quickly loses one to two days at the border. That is why customs preparation is a fixed part of the order with us – you supply the commercial invoice and goods data, we take care of the export declaration, the transit procedure and coordination with the customs agent on the Montenegrin side.

Scope of services for Montenegro transport

We serve this route with vehicles from the van (3.5 t) to the 40-tonne articulated truck. Typical goods are machinery and spare parts for industry and aluminium processing, fit-out for tourism projects on the coast, as well as construction-site and project cargo.

  • Direct run Germany–Podgorica/Nikšić without transhipment
  • Part and full loads including export and import customs clearance
  • Project cargo for hotel and construction projects on the Adriatic coast
  • Deliveries to the port of Bar for onward sea transport
  • Cargo insurance, live tracking and proof of delivery

Customs clearance Montenegro: documents and procedures

For export from the EU we prepare the export declaration and open the transit procedure (T1) for the stretch to the Montenegrin border. Import clearance there is carried out by the recipient or their customs agent, with whom we agree the timing and documents in advance. Usually required are the commercial invoice, packing list and – importantly – the preferential proof EUR.1 or a declaration of origin: Montenegro is linked to the EU through the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, so goods of preferential EU origin are imported duty-reduced or duty-free. Before departure we check whether your shipment benefits from this.

Process: from enquiry to Podgorica

After your enquiry with the key data, you receive a fixed-price quotation including customs services within a few hours. We collect the goods, clear the export and drive the main leg via the Croatian coastal route heading south. We schedule the border clearance so that the truck runs through wherever possible without a stationary day. You follow the shipment by live tracking through to delivery. Return loads from Montenegro – for instance towards Germany or Austria – we dispatch on request in the same round trip.

Vehicles and equipment for Balkan traffic

We dispatch curtain-side articulated trucks for pallets and machinery, box vehicles for sensitive goods and vans for urgent spare parts. For construction-site and project cargo on the coast we plan the unloading situation in advance: not every delivery address in the hillside locations of Kotor or Budva is reachable by articulated truck – then a smaller vehicle handles the last mile. Load securing, cargo insurance and documented handover are always part of the service on this route.

Why Speed Logistics for Montenegro?

Balkan routes are decided at the border, not on the motorway. Our dispatch team prepares every clearance completely before departure, knows the procedures at the crossings along the route and keeps you actively informed. One fixed point of contact, one fixed price, door-to-door responsibility from EXW to DDP – also for delicate and high-value cargo.

Frequently asked questions: Freight Forwarding Montenegro

How long does a transport from Germany to Montenegro take?

Usually three to four working days as a direct run over around 1,700 kilometres via Croatia – including export and import clearance. Border clearance is the biggest time factor; with fully prepared papers it usually runs without an additional stationary day. Express direct runs with two drivers shorten the transit time significantly on request.

Which customs papers do I need for a Montenegro transport?

A commercial invoice and packing list with commodity codes and values are mandatory. In addition come the export declaration and the T1 transit procedure, which we prepare, and ideally a preferential proof (EUR.1 or declaration of origin) so that EU-origin goods are imported duty-reduced. We check your documents before departure. This way your shipment passes through both clearances without queries.

Are goods from the EU duty-free in Montenegro?

Often yes: through the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the EU and Montenegro, goods with proven preferential EU origin are imported duty-free or duty-reduced. The prerequisite is the preferential proof, such as an EUR.1 movement certificate. Import VAT is due regardless. Whether your goods meet the origin criteria, we clarify together before departure.

Does Speed Logistics also deliver to the Montenegrin coast, e.g. to Bar or Budva?

Yes. Besides Podgorica and Nikšić we deliver along the entire coast – for example project cargo and hotel fit-out for tourism locations such as Budva and Kotor, or shipments to the port of Bar for onward sea transport. Simply state the delivery address in your enquiry.

Who handles import customs clearance in Montenegro?

Formally the recipient or their local customs agent – but we agree the documents and clearance timing with them in advance so the truck does not stand idle. If your recipient does not yet have an agent, we arrange an experienced partner at the border or destination.

What does a transport to Montenegro cost?

The price depends on vehicle size, collection region and customs scope; a van is well below a complete articulated truck. Send us dimensions, weight, goods value and date – within a few hours you receive a non-binding fixed-price quotation including export and customs handling. Additional customs services we show transparently as a separate item.

What should I pay particular attention to when transporting to Montenegro?

As a non-EU country, Montenegro requires complete customs clearance – the commercial invoice and packing list must match the goods cleanly, and with preferential EU origin an EUR.1 lowers the charges. Within the country, narrow mountain roads reduce the average speed, which must be factored into the transit time. For transit, vignettes for the transit countries are required.

Why is a direct run worthwhile instead of groupage to Montenegro?

Every Montenegro shipment, as a non-EU country, needs customs clearance; with groupage the effort per part shipment and transhipment multiplies. The direct run bundles export, transit and import into one journey and holds the transit time of 3–4 working days despite mountain roads. That lowers both the customs and the damage risk.
