Marine and Cruise Logistics – Express Transports to Port, Shipyard and Berth

For shipping companies, shipyards and ship chandlers, Speed Logistics drives express and direct transports to port, shipyard or berth – such as Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Kiel or Rotterdam – from the urgent ship spare to the complete refit fit-out, dispatched around the clock.

When a ship is in port, every hour counts: berth times are expensive, departure dates fixed. Speed Logistics organises express and direct transports for the marine and cruise industry – from spare parts and ship modules to shipyard supplies to complete on-board fit-out. Our dispatch team is reachable around the clock and delivers on time to the port, shipyard or straight to the berth, such as in Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Kiel or Rotterdam.

As a Berlin-based freight forwarder focused on international direct transports, we collect your shipment where it is produced – at the supplier in southern Germany, in Poland or in Türkiye – and bring it to the ship without transhipment. You usually receive a non-binding fixed-price quote within a few hours.

Scope of service for shipping companies, shipyards and ship chandlers

Typical transports we drive for the maritime industry:

  • Ship-spares express: urgent spare parts for engine, electrics and navigation to the next port of call
  • Shipyard logistics: modules, sections, aggregates and equipment to newbuild and repair yards
  • Cruise fit-out: furniture, interior, stage and catering technology for refit projects
  • Provisions and on-board supply deliveries with a fixed time window before departure

The decisive difference from groupage: with a direct transport there are no hub stops, no transhipments and no waiting times in distribution centres – the transit time is plannable and the goods stay in one hand from sender to quay. Especially with ship spares, whose value is often out of all proportion to the cost of an extended shipyard stay, this certainty quickly pays off.

Process: from the call to handover at the quay

You give us the collection point, destination port and time window – we check route, vehicle size and port access and send you a fixed-price quote including loading and CMR insurance. Depending on urgency we dispatch a direct transport with a vehicle from the van (3.5 t) to the 40 t articulated truck. During the transport we follow the shipment by GPS and coordinate delivery with the agent, shipyard or on-board personnel so that the handover at the gate or quay runs smoothly.

If the berth time shifts or a slot at the terminal is cancelled, the dispatch team reacts immediately: we hold the vehicle ready near the port, re-dispatch to an alternative date or – if the ship has already sailed – forward it to the next port of call. This flexibility is not a special case with maritime supply chains, but part of our planning.

Port access, security and documentation requirements

Ports and shipyards are secure areas: registrations, gate slots and the requirements of the ISPS Code have to be clarified before arrival. Our dispatch team takes care of the pre-registration with the terminal and ensures that driver and vehicle papers meet the access requirements. For seaworthy packaging, load securing of heavy aggregates and delivery with a tail lift or truck-mounted forklift we plan in the right equipment.

Customs clearance for ship spares and non-EU services

Spare parts for ships in international service can often be processed as ship's stores or in the transit procedure (T1) – that saves time and duties. Speed Logistics handles the complete customs clearance from EXW to DDP, even when the part comes from a non-EU country such as Türkiye or a ship has to be reached in a port outside the EU. That way your shipment arrives on board not only quickly, but also with clean papers.

Frequently asked questions: Marine & Cruise

How quickly can an urgent ship spare part be delivered to the berth?

With express direct transports we usually load within a few hours of order confirmation. A spare part from southern Germany thus reaches Hamburg or Bremerhaven mostly the same or next day. Our dispatch team is staffed 24/7 and coordinates the delivery window directly with the agent or shipyard.

Does Speed Logistics deliver directly on board or to the quay?

Yes. We pre-register the vehicle with the port terminal or the shipyard, clarify the gate slot and access requirements and deliver to the agreed handover point at the quay or berth. We coordinate the handover with the ship's agent or the responsible on-board personnel – on request outside regular gate hours too.

Can ship spare parts be delivered duty-free as ship's stores?

For ships in international service, processing as ship's stores or in the T1 transit procedure is often possible, so that no import duties arise. We check the appropriate customs procedure case by case and handle the complete processing including all documents – including for deliveries from or to non-EU countries.

Which vehicles are available for shipyard and port transports?

Depending on the shipment size we dispatch from the van with 3.5 t for urgent small parts to the 40 t articulated truck for modules, aggregates or complete refit fit-out. For heavy or bulky packages we plan load securing, tail lift or truck-mounted forklift in from the start – as well as lashing material for seaworthy packed crates.

What happens if the ship's port of call changes at short notice?

Because we drive direct transports without transhipment and follow the shipment by GPS, we can re-route during the transport – such as from Hamburg to Rotterdam. Our 24/7 dispatch team stays in contact with you and the ship's agent and continuously adjusts the time window.

Does Speed Logistics also handle cruise refit projects with several deliveries?

Yes. For refit and fit-out projects we bundle deliveries from several trades, time the deliveries to your shipyard schedule and deliver just in time to the yard. Each part delivery gets a fixed time window so that furniture, technology and interior arrive in the right order.

What should be considered for deliveries to port and shipyard?

Ports and shipyards are secure areas: the gate slot and ISPS pre-registration have to be clarified before arrival, and driver and vehicle papers have to meet the access requirements. If the port of call changes at short notice, a fallback plan is needed. Speed Logistics handles the pre-registration with the terminal and forwards to the next port of call if the ship has sailed.

Why can ship spares often be processed as ship's stores or in T1 transit at low customs cost?

Spare parts for ships in international service can often be processed as ship's stores or in the transit procedure (T1) – that saves time and duties. Speed Logistics handles the complete customs clearance from EXW to DDP, even when the part comes from a non-EU country or the ship has to be reached in a port outside the EU.
