Morocco is a growing market for German exporters – yet the import side deters many: VAT registration, customs classification, French- and Arabic-language communication with authorities. The solution is called DDP, “Delivered Duty Paid”: the forwarder takes over all import formalities and advances the Moroccan duties. The consignee in Casablanca receives the goods cleared and taxed, delivered to the final address – the shipper has zero effort with the local customs.
Speed Logistics runs the Frankfurt–Casablanca route as a continuous DDP chain via Spain, Gibraltar and the port of Tanger Med. Delivery time to the final address in Casablanca: 6 to 8 days.
What DDP delivery to Morocco covers
DDP is the most far-reaching Incoterms clause: the seller – represented by their forwarder – bears transport, export, import and duties up to delivery. Specifically, the Speed Logistics package includes:
- Advance of import duties: the Moroccan VAT of 20 percent as well as the customs duty are paid in advance – no payment interface between consignee and customs.
- EUR.1 advice: the EU–Morocco association agreement enables reduced or waived customs rates for goods of EU preferential origin; we check whether your shipment benefits and take care of the proof.
- Bilingual handling: the dispatch team communicates with authorities and consignees in French and Arabic – misunderstandings in clearance are eliminated.
- Final mile in Casablanca: delivery to the final address is handled by a well-rehearsed local partner.
- GPS tracking around the clock over the entire route Spain–Gibraltar–Tanger.
Why the route runs via Tanger Med
Even though the goods go to Casablanca, they are landed in Tanger Med. The port on the Strait of Gibraltar is the most modern transhipment place in North Africa – clearance is faster, the processes are more digital and more reliable than at the port of Casablanca. The truck crosses the strait by ferry, is cleared in Tanger Med and then drives the roughly 350 kilometres of motorway to Casablanca. All in all, this route is usually faster and more calculable than direct landing in Casablanca, despite the longer onward leg.
Process, transit time and costs
After loading in Frankfurt – or in the Rhine-Main surroundings – the shipment travels via France and Spain towards Algeciras, crosses by ferry to Tanger Med and is cleared there. For the entire route to the final address in Casablanca, 6 to 8 days is realistic. In terms of price, a DDP complete delivery lies – depending on shipment size and goods value – within a non-binding guide range of roughly 3,000 to 4,500 euros all-inclusive – that is, including advanced VAT and Moroccan customs duties, depending on route and lead time. You receive the binding fixed-price offer with a concrete delivery date within a few hours of the enquiry – including all items, so that no additional claims follow from Morocco.
Typical shipments on the Morocco route
Morocco has developed into a firm location for automotive supply, textile production and renewable energies. Accordingly, machines and plant components for plants in the Casablanca and Tanger area, production material and spare parts for the automotive and cable industry, solar modules and electrical engineering as well as trade fair and project loads frequently travel on this route. For sensitive and high-value goods, Speed Logistics offers premium handling with direct transport without transhipment – the goods stay on the same vehicle from Frankfurt to Casablanca. Depending on shipment size, vehicles from the Sprinter to the 40-t articulated truck are used, as full or part load.
For whom DDP to Morocco is worthwhile
DDP is the right choice when the consignee has no customs organisation of their own, when you as the seller want to offer “delivered duty paid” as a service promise, or when project deadlines leave no buffer for clearance problems – for example with machine deliveries to plants in the industrial belt of Casablanca. Anyone who instead wants to deliver only to the border or unpaid can also book the same route with other Incoterms from EXW to DAP – for example when the Moroccan consignee has their own customs agent. The Speed Logistics dispatch team advises you on the right clause and, on request, prepares both options for comparison – available around the clock on +49 (0)30 346 467 850, with the fixed-price offer following within a few hours.
